P-38 Invented when?

For the longest time it was believed that the P-38 was invented at the begining of WWII.  This belief has been documented by numerous sources including then Maj. Col. Renita Foster's article, The Army's Greatest Invention," which can be reviewed here.

But new information has come to light that questions the time table of the invention of the P-38 can opener.

There is a new blog that addresses the patent of the p-38 can opener and that patent dates before 1942.
